OK, so I’ve disregarded the political correctness of no mention of the “C” word. I think it’s important to celebrate your heritage and tradition with enthusiasm, whatever that is. Ours happens to be Christmas.

I was very neutral about the whole idea of Christmas in my early adult life. It was somewhat of a low key holiday growing up. That all changed when I met my husband. His birthday is December 24th, 11:58 pm, and he is truly Mr. Santa Claus at heart. I gradually came around to loving the holiday season, and trying to engage and make it the most it can be every year. Of course for an interior and landscape designer, that also means decorating! Above all, I really enjoy the season. Why I love Christmas:

• The weather is great in central Virginia. It’s just crisp enough to wear a coat and enjoy the colder temps. Seeing snow in December is a rare event here but last year we actually did have a white Christmas late in the day… delightful!
• Christmas cookies… need I say more?! Our neighbor has a cookie exchange every year. How fun is that!
• Decorating with abandon. I call ours tastefully tacky! Just have fun with it… all will be gone soon enough.
